Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 19

Day 19 (Originally Posted on September 20, 2020):

(Sorry I forgot to post yesterday) when it comes to Stephen King, there are several amazing movie adaptations that go from horror to drama to thriller. And while many are so well made and are considered classics. But, we won't be talking about those today, I'll be talking about my favorite (scary) King adaptation, Maximum Overdrive.

The first time I saw this movie, I had only heard of it, didn't know it was a King, movie and I didn't know the two best parts of the movie: the excessive gore and the AC/DC soundtrack. The plot of the movie is that the earth is passing through the tail of a meteor and for a week, earth has to deal with the effects, which include all machines coming to life. The movie kicks off with an ATM calling SOMEONE an asshole, a bridge starts rising without warning, a soda machine chucks cans at a guys crotch. Eventually, a group of survivors bunkers in a truck stop to ride it out. Including roles from Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle,  Yeardly Smith and a brief appearance by Giancarlo Espositio.

(He says "yo momma" to a video game and dies)

Does it rank well with King's other adaptations? No. Is it a great time? YES. My other favorite scary King adaptations such as the Shining and Christine are more slow burns. Where this one is right out the gate. And unlike The Shining and Shawshank, this is a short guy. So, it's short, super sweet and super fun. So, when able,  grab Some friends, grab some pumpkings and pop this one in! It's a great watch for the season!
(2022 update, while looking for images, I came across this bed set you could get for $60! I'm not posting the link, because it seems sketchy)

Stay Spooky!
