Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 60

Image
Day 60: We are close to the end here and we have the last candy review and we are going out with a bang!  Today we have: Orange Kit Kats, Dark chocolate kit Kats and sour punch twists!  I grabber these at Walgreens, and let's get into it.  The orange kit Kats are orange colored vanilla chocolate, so no orange flavor here, these kind of taste weird and I wouldn't buy again.  The dark chocolate Kit Kats are different, now I'm not a big dark chocolate guy, but with these, it's like they used top notch dark chocolate. These were really good, if you like dark chocolate or different Kit Kats, definitely give these a buy!  The twists come in three flavors oozing orange, bone chilling berry and monster melon. These are all pretty average, the sour doesn't really pack a punch and it doesn't last too long. The berry was the stand out of these. Out of the three I here, the dark chocolate Kit Kats are the winner.

Day 57: Stopped at Rite Aid today and to my luck, they had Halloween candy! So should you be picking: Russell Stover's Chocolate Pumpkins? They come in at least 3 flavors: Peanut butter, marshmallow and coconut cream. They were out of coconut cream, so I just picked up the first 2. The design on the PB is the standard chocolate wavy design, but on the marshmallow, it looks like they tried to make a pumpkin design, but it's just puffy.  But, they are shaped like pumpkins, so that's a win. The chocolate shell on the peanut butter is a TINY bit thicker than on a Peanut Butter cup, while on the marshmallow one, its like a thin shell that will crack under a little pressure.  The peanut butter is a little bit grittier than the Reese's kind and the Marshmallow is super sticky, but is more like real marshmallow, as opposed to marshmallow flavored cream. And without care you'd have a mess on your hands. So, these are pretty ok,...

Day 50: So, while I was at the store today, I saw a new Halloween themed candy! How was I able to pass up these: Spooky Color Junior Mints.  So, the box has some awesome Halloween colors and artwork, that grabbed me, and as opposed to other limited time single carton candy, this is the size of a regular box that you can get year round.  Now, I don't know if they we're all like this, but the mints were a little flat as opposed to robust. With the orange and black filling, I wasn't really expecting any different flavor, but the texture is a bit more smooth, so that's cool, and Junior Mints are always nice.  The orange isn't really that bright and the black isn't really that dark. If you like Junior Mints, be sure to pick up a box, they're worthy enough to be sown into Bub the Zombie! (The actor who played Bub in Day of the Dead also played the guy who got the Junior Mint sown into him in that Seinfeld episode)

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 33

Day 33(Posted on October 3rd, 2020): more candy tonight with the Reese's Peanut Butter Ghost!  First things first, I think they should have called this the peanut BOOter ghost, total missed opportunity. The packaging has spooky trees and bats and the the word "scary" with out peanut butter ghost as the A, in my opinion, this gives it an edge over the Frankencups. As you unwrap it, you see the ghost doesn't look half bad.  The taste? Well, these aren't the PB pumpkins, I'm not too big on white chocolate, so, if not for these reviews, I probably would've skipped them. But if you like PB and white chocolate, you'll be sure to like these. Update for 2022! They're are back this year and it looks like they may have theirs eyes and mouth cut out! Stay Spooky!!!

Day 32(Posted October 2nd 2020): So, I did another candy run that'll get me another 2 days of reviews. And here's the first one Pumpkin Pie Kit Kats!  So, my last Kit Kat review was of the Marshmallow flavored Witch's Brew kit kat(still my top candy choice for this year!) These are a horse of a different color and flavor. The bag is a light orange with a pic of pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream. It's nice, but doesn't really stand out. As opposed to other snack size kit kats, this is a single bite size instead of two regular sized kit kats.  It comes in an eye catching glowy orange. You take a bite of this and it definitely is pumpkin pie, NOT pumpkin spice, pumpkin pie   And while not the best food or candy of the year, it's really good, I never was too big on kit kats, but they have definitely stepped ip their game this year. These took me a little while to find, so if you see them, grab them. ...

Day 30(Posted on September 30, 2020): Ok so it turns out I WAS NOT done with the treats from Target (I forgot about these) so, how are the CREEPY cocoa crisp M&M's?  So, the first thing you'll notice, is the head M&M Red dressed as Dracula (or a generic vampire) so, after you rip them open, you'll see that the colors aren't really Halloween colors (bright greens and orange and purple) but, the earthy, autumn colors (brown, orange and red), which doesn't make them as creepy as they could be.  You bite in and the taste reminds me of the crispy M&M's, but chocolate, so sort of like Cocoa Krispies. The odd thing is, the chocolate tastes closer to a dark chocolate than a milk chocolate. If there was a bowl of these in front of me, I wouldn't down them like I do the peanut and PB ones. But, I'd probably nurse them. Verdict: they're ok.

Day 28(Originally Posted on September 28th 2020): The final day of my little shopping spree. I give you the Cadbury Harvest Mix.  Well, first things first, this Cadbury's Harvest mix is better than the Brach's Harvest Mix (two different candy corns and pumpkins). These guys are a sugary candy shell with Cadbury's chocolate inside. Like another seasonal Cadbury treat: the eggs. The first thing I noticed was that these guys are round (as opposed to egg shaped) and a more autumn like color scheme ( as opposed to a spring pastel color scheme).  The differences end there. The good: They're just like Cadbury eggs, the only other time you can get them is Easter. The bad: They're just like Cadbury eggs, if you miss them now, they'll be back at Easter. So, if you're a fan, be sure to grab a bag, if you aren't, give it a pass. Also the circle shape freaks me out, like large Sixlets.

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 17

Day 17(Originally Posted on September 17th 2020, I did a lot of candy reviews that year and these were by far my favorite): I picked up some of these Witches Brew Kit-Kats today, but should you?  I've been on the hunt for these since I heard of their existence. Right away the 60's era artwork witch grabs you, I love it! The Kit Kats themselves have a nice warm shade of green, I was expecting them to glow in the dark. You bite it and since they aren't chocolate, you're expecting white chocolate, but, nope, marshmallow flavor. Its a nice flavor, its subtle and not too in your face. With the crisp of the wafer and the taste of the marshmallow, it tastes like a store brand "rice/marshmallow treat". Which, I think is good. If that sounds good to you, check them out!  Also, side note, some people think with the marshmallow flavor and green color, that these were supposed to be a tie-in with the delayed Ghostbusters sequel.

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 11: Another candy review flashback!

Day 11(Originally Posted on September 11th 2020):  So I picked up a pack of these Hershey Vampire Kisses filled with "blood".  So, the wrapper is purple with bats on it, totally playing into the vampire theme, the little strip of paper says "Vampire" on it, just like when Van Helsing had Kisses back in his time. The chocolate is the same consistency as other Hershey kisses with filling. The consistency of the "blood" filling is a little thicker than a Gushers filling probably closer to a cordial cherry. The taste is supposed to strawberry, but, it's weird because it tastes like a cordial cherry. If you like Hershey Kisses or chocolate covered strawberries (or cherries) give these a try. Not the best novelty Kiss flavor, but definitely not the worst.

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 9

Day 9 (Originally Posted on September 9th 2020, seeing as these treats might not be available this year, I'll try to get some updated goodies to do a review on!) Day 9: so, I picked up some spooky Halloween treats today. And here's my view on them.  The Reese's FrankenCups are 2/3 chocolate and a 1/3 green chocolate.  The peanut butter is the same. The good is that they're Reese's cups, they're always good, the green is neat and the conductors on the wrappers are a nice touch. The bad, they taste like regular Reese's cups. Nothing special, these are look only.  Now, my Mrs. says aside from Pumpkin Spice and Apple caramel, there's a third fall flavor. Maple. Among the maple flavored foods this time of year, are Maple Cream oreos. These are good, super sweet (but not too sweet) and the maple flavor really stands out with these. If you're a fan of maple flavor, definitely pick up a pack of thes...

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown, Day 2: Favorite Candy.

Image
(Originally Posted on September 2nd, 2020) Day 2: Favorite Halloween themed candy.  One thing you're going to notice about my picks is alot of times, I pick the fan favorite and other times I go FAR against the crowd.  Now, pretty much everyone loves Reese's Peanut Butter cups. As do I. But, I think they taste so much better when they're shaped like something (Christmas Trees, Valentine's Hearts, Easter Eggs) and Reese's Peanut Butter pumpkins are no exception. Even though you can sort of get them at other times during the year, I love these. More than candy corn, caramel apple lollipops and orange and black peanut butter fudge, these are the ones that stick with me the most. I'd always save these guys for last when it came to my Halloween haul. Stay Spooky everyone!

Red, White and Blue Twinkies!

Image
Hey everyone, Pop Daddy here, I've been finding motivation to make some videos, but it's rough, especially when the view counts are low and you don't get too much feedback. But, I've got a snack here to check out and I hope you like it.  A few weeks ago, the Mrs. went to the store and said she had a surprise for me upon returning, so after I pull the assist with the bags, she reveals my surprise...(you've seen the title, you know what it is) .                               Murican Twinkies! So, these guys come in a 12 pack, individually wrapped, so, I pull one out and take a look at it.  As you can see the wrapping is the usual Hostess snack wrapping, nothing too special, so I remove it for another look.  There are red and blue specks, and I don't know if the "white" is supposed to be the exposed cake or the cream? But, there was very little whit...
