Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 55

Image
Day 55: 44 years ago today John Carpenter's Halloween was released to cinemas worldwide, and the horror genre was changed forever. But, this isn't a review of the first one, this is pretty much a where I stand on each movie with the pros and con's.  Halloween (1978) The classic Pros: Pretty much everything from atmosphere to setting, this is the classic and I will have more on this in a few days, actually. Plus, it includes my favorite scary movie scene.   Cons: There's nothing I can really think of. Aside from some very small plot holes.  Halloween II (1981) The sequel that picks up immediately where the other left off.  Pros: Adds so much extra to the first movie, I did a mini review 2 weeks ago, if you want to check that out.  Cons: Laurie seems to take a backseat in this movie to Loomis which is a shame, because she wouldn't return for another 17 years / 6 movies. Last time we see Laurie and Loomis together. Although ...

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 25

Day 25(Originally Posted September 25 2020): I reviewed the book last night, today it's the movie, so how is Scary Stories to tell in the Dark?  It's good for what it is, I know that isn't the most glowing recommendation, but, let me explain. The movie's plot is about a group of kids who discover a book and the characters from the book come to life and Snatch the kids away one by one(Such as Harold, the white lady and the dangly man) , until they find a way to stop them. The movie feels like instead of being it's own thing, it felt like it was trying to be Goosebumps. Fans of the book most likely won't like it, mostly because the type of book would fit better as an anthology film. It's decent, but if you're a fan of book, it will most likely be a one and done. Its pretty safe for the older kids, they'll most likely make it a Halloween staple.

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown, Day 8: Scariest Movie Scene

Day 8: Scariest Movie Scene (Originally Posted September 7th 2020) While many scenes scare me, I don't like the "jump scares" I prefer the "something's not right" or "something's off" scares and this one might be my favorite.  The original Halloween in my opinion is a horror "comfort movie"(I'll be doing a review later and I'll be sure to include that line again) and it also includes a scene, which I think is the scariest.(skip to 2:26 below for the scene)  After the opening credits and 15 years after Michael Meyers murdered his sister, Michael's Dr. Samuel Loomis and his assistant, Nurse Marion Chambers are on the way to pick Michael up. Dr. Loomis speaks about the evils of Michael on the way to the sanitarium. As they get there in the dark pouring rain, we change to their POV, we can start to make out white shapes through the night. As we finally see what they are, patients.  A sense of unease com...

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown, Day 1: Favorite Scary Movie

So, to start things off, I thought I'd keep it simple with my favorite scary movie, enjoy! (Originally Posted September 1st, 2020) So, heres day 1 of my Halloween grab bag, so I thought I'd start with my favorite scary movie.  Although its not really a horror movie, Ridley Scott's 1979 movie Alien(trust me, I will most likely cover another late 70's horror movie later on) the Alien movie, while scary on the basis of the creature alone, the cramped in area of the Nostromo's hallways and ducts are enough to make even the non claustrophobic feel uncomfortable. Its the unknown, the fact that there is no escape, help isn't coming and there's a creature hunting you down. From the design of the Xenomorph to the Jerry Goldsmith score, to the windy rocky terrain of LV-426 everything in this movie fits together for a perfect sci-fi/horror movie. (Also, I will say that Aliens is my favorite of the series) (And as a Pop Daddy extra, enjoy these R...
