Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 38
Day 38(Originally Posted October 8th, 2020): So, I was reading something today and Tommy Lee Wallace's name was brought up(2022 update: today is his birthday, so that may have had something to do with it), so, for today I thought I'd bring up his directorial debut: Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
Halloween 3, is considered by many to be the black sheep of the franchise, for the reason that's the elephant in the room here: No Michael Myers. You see after part 2,they decided to make Halloween 1 and 2 their own little story and every year they'd release another "Halloween" film with a different story.
The story is about a Dr who investigates a toy company which makes popular masks, with a sinister design... The mustacheoed sex machine Tom Atkins thrills us as Dr. Challis and he gives it his all.
The real stars of the movie are the Don Post masks, they are three designs, the Pumpkin, Skeleton and Witch and for some reason, everybody needs to have these masks.
But, with the good, you have to take the horribly bad. The company that produces the mask in the film, Silver Shamrock, has a marketing campaign that will beat you in the head to the tune of "London Bridge". That's right, if there's one thing you will take away from the movie, it's the Silver Shamrock jingle. "Three more days til Halloween, Halloween, three more days til Halloween, Silver Shamrock!" Yeah, good luck getting that out of your head before Black Friday. The movie unfortunately didn't do as well at the box office as part 2, so they scrapped the anthology idea to bring Michael back for Halloween 4 in 1988, was it worth it? Nope, adjusted for inflation Halloween 3 and 4 made roughly the same amount. All in all, this movie has a solid story and solid scares. If you're marathoning the Halloween series or looking to binge scary movies make sure to include Halloween 3!
Stay Spooky!
