Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 43


Day 43(Posted October 13, 2020): Carvel has a Halloween shake and it's based off of most people's favorite family friendly Halloween movie. So, did their Hocus Pocus shake put a spell on me? 

I've MAYBE been to a Carvel 2 or 3 times in my life (including this time). I've lived up here for almost 7 years and this was my first time at this location(we do have some really good non chain ice cream places up here) and I went in and inquired about the shake. The shake comes on S, M, L sizes, BUT if you want the special Hocus Pocus cup, it comes on small only, if you order another size though, they'll give you an empty cup for keeps. They make it seem like it's supposed to be a special keepsake cup, but the plastic feels not as strong as fast food keepsake plastic cups, but not as weak as fast food/coffee shop iced coffee plastic cups(2022 update: It's same with the cups I'm giving away). 


Now, onto the shake, this guy is colored green with slimy green streaks around it, an awesome medley of Halloween colored jimmies(orange, green, purple and white) plus whipped cream, this thing looks awesome.


 I tried to refrain from looking what was in it before my first sip. I was expecting mint, nope vanilla (the same kind that drives their amazing cakes) so, this isn't a Hocus O'Pocus shake (Carvel Cake joke). BUT, there's also Oreos in there, which definitely knock this shake from a "should try" to a "must have". 

                             Well, not REAL Oreos. 


Even though it doesn't taste like pumpkin or caramel apple or even maple, this is THE BEST thing I've had for the Halloween review. If there is a Carvel near you, definitely pick this up, you can get the flavor year round, but not the look!


2022 Update! So, during my first month of being Pop Daddy, Carvel had a trio of Hocus Pocus shakes. 

I made a video reviewing Winifred's Cake batter shake and I also tried Sarah's Cinnamon Churro shake. The reason I didn't get the Mary's Cookies and Cream Shake, is because it was the same shake as this one was in 2020, looking back, I should have gotten it, so at least I would have three cups to give away! Day 53: A little bit back, I reviewed my favorite Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode. This Sunday marks 30(32 this month, Oct, 2022) years since the first one titled "The Simpsons Halloween Special" (and the only one to take place in a treehouse!) Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 35

Day 35 (Posted October 5th, 2020): It's hard to believe that this month marks the 30th anniversary of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror anthology episodes. (on 10/25, maybe I'll pick my 3 favorite independent segments) which means 3 years from now, there will be over 100 segments(2022: One year to go!). There are many good ones, but in my opinion, the best collection in my opinion is Treehouse of Horror V.  .      Still known as the Simpsons Halloween special  After an Outer Limits-esque intro, the first segment is called "The Shinning" it revolves around the Simpson family agreeing to watch Mr. Burns' lodge for the winter. After Burns cuts the cable and takes the beer, which causes Homer to slowly descend into madness. While it turns out Bart has psychic skills. Sound familiar? It's a direct spoof of The Shining and this one brings the laughs. Segment two: "Time and Punishment" begins with Homer breaking the toaste...

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 27

Day 27(Posted on September 27, 2020): I told you that I had a little Halloween food shopping spree the other day, so here's today's food, Pumpkin Spice Twinkies.  So, these look like regular Twinkies, but once you take a bite, if you're not expecting it, that pumpkin spice taste hits you in the face. Now, when you unwrap these, you can smell the pumpkin spice. So, if you were hoping to trick a friend with these, unless they have a bad sense of smell, you're not tricking anyone. The sponge cake has the same consistency, the cream is a little fluffier(I can't remember how long it's been since I've had a Twinkie, so it might have always been this fluffy), but both the cake and the cream are loaded with pumpkin spice.  So, if you don't like Twinkies and/or don't like pumpkin spice, give these a pass, because they are loaded. But if you like both, these are a MUST BUY.
