Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 44


Day 44(Posted October 14, 2020, Revised 2022): Now as you know, I'm a HUGE Disney guy *COUGH* Mickey World Travel - Tom Coombs *COUGH* and what better time of year to talk about my favorite Disney attraction: The Haunted Mansion. 



The Haunted Mansion turned 53 this year at Disneyland and 51 this month at Walt Disney World (it opened with the Magic Kingdom). Now, when I first rode this when I was 7 and I pretty much closed my eyes the whole time. As you walk through the Magic Kingdom through Liberty Square, you can hear a wolf howling through the land's drum and fife music. While walking on the red paved ground, walking by the large riverboat, you see the origin of the howl a large Gothic style house. Walking closer through a graveyard you pass by some busts and some tombstones with humorous sayings (Master Gracy laid to rest, no mourning please, at his request) you enter the house, and are led into a circular room with 4 portraits. As the ghost host is speaking, you notice the room is stretching, and you notice there's no windows or doors, but the ghost host mentions there's a way out...at this part the lights go out and you see a corpse hanging from the rafters as our host laughs and leads us to our ride vehicles. Anyone who has ridden this, knows parts have stuck out to the invisible organ piano player, to the bride in the attic, the graveyard party, to the legendary ballroom and hitchhiking ghosts. This ride is classic Disney and Imagineering at it's best. Paul Frees is the voice of our ghost host (also Boris Badenov, Santa in Frosty the Snowman and maybe his most popular role, Burgermeister Meisterburger from Santa Claus is coming to town) his narration definitely helps the atmosphere of this ride. The ride may be slow moving, but it'll deliver a chill down your spine. This is my favorite Disney attraction and in my opinion, on of the best.

Day 53: A little bit back, I reviewed my favorite Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode. This Sunday marks 30(32 this month, Oct, 2022) years since the first one titled "The Simpsons Halloween Special" (and the only one to take place in a treehouse!) Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 35

Day 35 (Posted October 5th, 2020): It's hard to believe that this month marks the 30th anniversary of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror anthology episodes. (on 10/25, maybe I'll pick my 3 favorite independent segments) which means 3 years from now, there will be over 100 segments(2022: One year to go!). There are many good ones, but in my opinion, the best collection in my opinion is Treehouse of Horror V.  .      Still known as the Simpsons Halloween special  After an Outer Limits-esque intro, the first segment is called "The Shinning" it revolves around the Simpson family agreeing to watch Mr. Burns' lodge for the winter. After Burns cuts the cable and takes the beer, which causes Homer to slowly descend into madness. While it turns out Bart has psychic skills. Sound familiar? It's a direct spoof of The Shining and this one brings the laughs. Segment two: "Time and Punishment" begins with Homer breaking the toaste...

Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 27

Day 27(Posted on September 27, 2020): I told you that I had a little Halloween food shopping spree the other day, so here's today's food, Pumpkin Spice Twinkies.  So, these look like regular Twinkies, but once you take a bite, if you're not expecting it, that pumpkin spice taste hits you in the face. Now, when you unwrap these, you can smell the pumpkin spice. So, if you were hoping to trick a friend with these, unless they have a bad sense of smell, you're not tricking anyone. The sponge cake has the same consistency, the cream is a little fluffier(I can't remember how long it's been since I've had a Twinkie, so it might have always been this fluffy), but both the cake and the cream are loaded with pumpkin spice.  So, if you don't like Twinkies and/or don't like pumpkin spice, give these a pass, because they are loaded. But if you like both, these are a MUST BUY.
