Pop Daddy's Halloween Countdown Day 29
Day 29 (Originally Posted on September 29, 2020) So, except for the food reviews, all of the movies and TV shows and memories, have been things that I've loved and had memories of. But keep in mind, they're not all good memories. So, today I'm looking at my least favorite of the Halloween movies and surprise, it doesn't involve Rob Zombie, Busta Rhymes or Paul Rudd.
So, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is, in my opinion, the WORST of the Halloween series. At the end of Part 4 Michael is confirmed dead (later retconned) and his niece Jamie murders her mother (later retconned) and Jamie is apparently possessed by Michael's murderous spirit (later retconned). The movie opens with Michael surviving and Jamie now in a hospital. Jamie's stepsister/heroine from the last movie shows up and is dead in the first 20 minutes. Thus giving us her friend/heroine for this movie/worst character in the movie/worst character in the franchise/runner for worst character in all of horror Tina. She's the WOOOOOOORST.
She putzes around the movie, later becoming a welcome notch in Michael's body count. The best part of the movie is Loomis playing his classic "hang out with the sheriff and spout trailer lines" self. This movie was released a year after Halloween 4 and they scrapped everything they set up. The script was written up as they went along, and it shows. Along with an ending that I believe they admitted they didn't know what they were setting, up, just writing up a review of this movie makes me angry.
Sort of related, Friday the 13th Part V ended with hinting that Tommy Jarvis was possessed by Jason, although part VI was amazing. So, in closing it's honestly the worst of the series, in my opinion. The Rob Zombie ones aren't unentertaining and Resurrection at least has Jamie Lee in it (for like 5 seconds) so, unless you're marathoning the series, stay away from this one. Also, with the tagline "He's back, but this time THEY'RE READY!" they just wanted a badass tagline. If they were really ready, the body count wouldn't be in the double digits.
2022 update: As you can see there's a new 4K rerelease from Shout/Scream Factory with awesome new artwork by friend of the Pop Daddy, Joel Robinson! Don't let the cool cover fool you, this movie is still the worst. Worst mask too. Stay Spooky!
